Phalkivan, one of the seven forests of Kurukshetra, is a place of great virtue. Presently, Phalkivan is famous for Phalgu Tirtha and Phalak Rishi mandir. These are in Village Pharal, and the village got its name from the famous temple and tirtha. Phalgu Tirth is mentioned in the holy scriptures of in Mahabharata and Vamana Purana.
Phalak Rishi Mandir is in the village of Pharal. The mandir has an imposing and beautiful marble statue of Maharishi Phalak.

In accordance with lineage and tradition, the temple is currently being looked after by Pandit Shri Jaigopal Sharma. There is a huge lake in the south-west of the temple complex. Lakhs of devotees perform shraddha for their ancestors here. This shraddha is called Pitrakarma or Pindadan.
Phalak Mandir and Phalgu Tirth is 25 kms from Kaithal, 27 kms from Kurukshetra, and 20 kms from Pehwa, on the Dhand-Pundri road. The nearest railway stations are Pehowa Road, Kaithal and Kurukshetra. This place of pilgrimage is 188 kms from New Delhi and 115 kms from Chandigarh. The distance from Indira Gandhi International Airport is 197 kms.
